Cruise to Run Alsaka -
Day 1 – Board the Sapphire Princess in Seattle

Day 2 – Day at Sea

We left Seattle and started our trip to Alaska. Today was registration and overview of the trip. Bart Yasso and Sarah Reinertsen were introduced as our guest speakers.
Many runners spent time in the fully equipped gym on the ship that includes treadmills, elliptical machines, spin classes, yoga, weights and more.

Day 3 – Ketchikan – Sunny and warm weather awaited us in Ketchikan. We meet Susan Doherty our race organizer here and did a five mile race from downtown to Saxman Village and the totem poles and back. Runners passed by a Bald Eagles nest on the way complete with hatchlings.

After the run many of the runners went on excursions before boarding the ship.

Sarah Reinertsen gave an incredible speech at night that will be remembered by
everyone..

Day 4- Tracy Arm Fjord- We cruised for four hours through Tracy Arm Fjords. The best description of this is simple. Breathtaking.

Day 4 Juneau
Unfortunately we were delayed getting into Juneau. Our ship hit a whale and was delayed as there was an investigation and the whale had to be removed from the ship.

We were 2 ½ hours late getting into Juneau but still did one of the most spectacular runs of the trip. Runners had the option of doing 5 miles or 8 miles on the Perseverance Trail . Tristan Lumbardo of the Juneau South East Roadrunners lead us on this spectacular run that featured, unbelievable scenery, cascading waterfalls, and more. A bear was spotted on course and runners waited for it to pass before venturing on.

After the run a bunch of us visited the Red Dog Saloon for some post run beverages and fun. The group was really bonding and everyone seemed to be making new friendships.

Day 5 – Skagway
We started the day bright and early with a run from downtown Skagway. Marlene McCluskey of the Skagway Tourism board marked the run and met us to get things underway.
The Run took us to the grave site of Soapy Smith an infamous outlaw from the late 1800’s who was gunned down in Skagway. There was a four mile option as well as a 6 mile option for the runners.

Many runners did excursions here and including the train ride to White Pass.

Bart Yasso did his amazing talk and slide show on this evening. Bart has travelled around the world with his running and says “ Never limit were running can take you”

After Bart’s talk we went for a group photo and a group diner.

Day 6 – Day at sea
Some of the runners used the day as a day of rest and others went to the gym.

Today we had two scheduled events. A Q &A with Bart and Sarah as well as a book signing by both. Sarah has a book called In a Single Bound and Bart has My Life On The Run.

Day 7 - Victoria
We had a cocktail party on board the ship in the afternoon and presented everyone with their participation medals. We also presented some well earned awards.

We docked at 7 p.m. and did a 5k prediction run along the water and finished at Mile 0 and the Terry Fox monument.

We then went back to Rob Reid’s Running store on Victoria. Rob provided Sushi in a shoebox, beer and wine for all.
Sarah Reinertsen had a shoe retired into Rob’s shoes of the famous runners who had visited his store.
Bart Yasso was honored with a concrete slab in the walk of fame outside the store.
This was an incredible honor for the Mayor of Running

Day 8 Seattle

We departed the ship and said goodbye to all of our Cruise to Run friends
